Xaedan: Toa of Fire

Toa Xaedan's situation is unique. He is one of two members of the "Nameless Team" to not have been created by Infernum and Mata Nui. Xaedan is actually the oldest member on the Nameless Team though he does not know this. Xaedan was, along with Toa Longinus, were the first two candidates for Infernum's Game. Below is Xaedan's false history.

 

Xaedan was once a Ta-Matoran on Metru Nui. Having failed to acquire a job as either a toolmaker or maskmasker, Xaedan found himself treated as inferior. Over time, Xaedan lost the usual qualities found in a Ta-Matoran including leadership capabilities and hot-headedness. In fact, he was the exact opposite: willing to follow orders, and very timid.

Much time passed, and he eventually joined the crowds of Matoran who migrated to Spherus Magna. Sadly, Xaedan found himself just as shunned as he had been before.

One fateful day, he was approached by a short little man who went by the name of Infernum. He offered everything Xaedan wanted. Power, a companion, a chance to redeem himself. He would, however, have to allow his name to be entered in Infernum's Deathmatch roster.

Xaedan had enough of his pitiful existence; he gladly accepted. He was granted one of the most powerful Toa tools in existance, along with all the other trappings of a Toa of Fire. He also had a "partner" permanently bonded to him.

He was then placed in a temporary stasis, and released once the rest of the Nameless Team had been assembled.

True History

Toa Xaedan's true past is as follows. Large spoiler ahead. Highlight the text to read, if you wish.

 

In reality, Toa Xaedan was not created by Infernum. Toa Xaedan was the Toa of Fire on Lesovikk's team, the First Toa Team.

 

During that fateful day, when Lesovikk's team was ambushed by a tribe of Zyglak, Lesovikk hesitated whether to hurl his blade at the Zyglak rushing at Nikila, the Toa of Lightning on his team. If he had sacrificed his blade, Nikila would have been able to use her Mask of Possibilities to, perhaps, give the team a chance to escape.

 

Lesovikk did not throw his sword.

 

Nikila was killed nearly instantly, along with the rest of the team. Lesovikk, full of shame, managed to escape in one piece.

 

He was, however, wrong about Xaedan. The Toa of Fire was able to use his Kanohi Cyros to freeze the Zyglak, as his Mask did not run on any elemental powers. After he fought his way through, however, Xaedan was unable to meet up with Lesovikk. They never saw each other again, and both assumed the other as dead.

 

And so, Xaedan wandered the Matoran Universe, seeking adventure and helping where he could. Xaedan felt no burden of the likes Lesovikk did. Xaedan still considered himself a Toa, and was proud of it. Xaedan's deeds include quelling a rebellion on the Southern Continent long before the Cataclysm and escorting the Av-Matoran back to Karda Nui, after the Cataclysm.

 

Xaedan's charmed life eventually came to an end. Xaedan was framed for as the perpetrator of a brutal murder, in which an apparent arson was involved. As the Toa Code forbade killing, and the victim was Toa, no less, Xaedan was instantly branded as a criminal beyond saving. At this point, the Pit was too badly damaged to hold any more prisoners, so Xaedan's sentence was transferred to Infernum.

 

Anyone in the right mind would choose the Pit over Infernum. The first few years were the hardest. Forced to do manual labour, Xaedan was also ridiculed by the other inmates. "How did a Toa end up on the wrong side of the bars?" they asked. Xaedan could not answer. Xaedan slowly lost hope, and resigned himself to his fate.

 

All was not lost, however. A certain Fiend would bring him back from the edge of utter despair.
